New ebook:'30 Ways to Use Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom'

I know from years of experience that kinesthetic learning techniques are vastly under-used by teachers.

Most teachers have heard of kinesthetic learning strategies but think they can only be used with so-called 'kinesthetic learners'.

In fact, ALL students could and should participate in kinesthetic learning activities in class. What often holds teachers back is a lack of of practical guidance about how to engage ordinary students in kinesthetic learning activities.

That's why I'm pleased to let you all know that my ebook '30 Ways to Use Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom' is now available as a PDF file. I've road-tested all the strategies in the ebook and I know they all work.

Why not check out the ebook for yourself on the main website?

If you prefer, you can download a copy of 30 Ways to Use Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom at the Kindle store.

Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom

I wanted to let you know that my ebook 30 Ways to Use Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom is now available at the Kindle store.

There are lots of books about how to help so-called ‘kinesthetic learners’ who often struggle in a traditional classroom setting but 30 Ways to Use Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom is not one of those books. Its focus is to show how all students, whatever their preferred learning style, can and should engage in kinesthetic learning activities in class.

It's designed as a practical guide to getting students to play a more active part in lessons so that they learn more effectively.

It is a step by step guide to proven strategies that encourage students to get out of their seats and engage with classroom learning in structured ways. The strategies have all been ‘road tested’ and can be used in all subject areas in ordinary classrooms every day.

30 Ways to Use Kinesthetic Learning in the Classroom explains how to:

...harness students’ natural desire to learn

...involve all students fully in learning activities

...use brain compatible learning strategies

...make learning more memorable and therefore more successful

...let your students have some ‘serious fun’ in lessons.

The ebook is an easy-to-follow start up guide to using kinesthetic learning activities in the classroom, that not only explains how to use the strategies but also why they work.

Profit from Retirement

My UK colleague Rob Plevin has decided to retire!

Actually that's not strictly true - he's decided to retire his current Behaviour Needs website and those of you who've visited his site will know he has some great products that have already helped thousands of teachers worldwide.

Now, Rob's developing a brand new website and is retiring his current products at bargain-basement prices.

So now everyone has a choice: either to grab some of these products at the current low prices, or wait until Rob's new website is up and running in September, when he'll have a new range of products.

I know Rob's new website will be great but I know he won't be making his new products available at the same price as those currently on offer.

Why not take look for yourselves and see if you can grab a bargain that could help you become even more successful in the classroom.

The #1 Classroom Management Problem

What would you say is your #1 classroom management problem?
Offensive language in class?
Students who refuse to work?
Or what about students who are openly defiant?

My colleague Rob Plevin has just conducted a survey among visitors to his website on what they consider to be their most difficult classroom management problem. The result?

Clearly in the lead with a 58% response was....noise in the classroom.
The problem is that a noisy class isn't just noisy - they also demonstrate a whole range of other inappropriate behaviours, such as inattentiveness, inappropriate language, reluctance to get down to work and so on.

Fortunately Rob, who is a leading and well-respected UK-based behaviour management expert, and who has helped thousands of teachers develop their behaviour management skills, has produced a great resource which could help to take control of the noisy class.

Like all of Rob's products it's carefully researched and based on his many years of working with challenging teenagers.

There's still time to get this product - but soon he's going to make it a subscription-only resource.
You can check it out here.

Should we keep disruptive students in school?

Disruptive students should not be excluded from school. This was suggested recently by a leading UK children's and young people's charity.

Their reasoning was that for some at risk students, the classroom is the only place where they can experience the rules and boundaries that might just help them learn the appropriate social skills to keep them out of trouble and give them a chance of breaking the cycle of deprivation and negativity that characterises their lives 'on the outside'.

The problem for teachers is that they might agree that the principled thing to do is to keep difficult students in class, and as teachers they have the best interests of their students at heart, but they are all too aware of how difficult it is to manage the behavior of students like this in a classroom situation.

There are no easy answers of course, but a good place to start is a strong classroom discipline plan.

And then we can all benefit from some specific help from experts in this field.
Teachers can't expect - or be expected - to deal successfully with students like this without some really targeted expert advice.

Don't let teacher stress beat you

The most popular online teacher forum in the UK has featured a thread over the last few weeks about teacher stress.

The thread has generated a lot of interest and judging by the forum posts it's clear that stress continues to affect many teachers.

The teacher who started the thread had the courage to take the first important step to beating stress: admitting it. Only when you accept that you're not handling the stress can you start to find ways to beat it.

There are lots of steps teachers can take to combat stress and you can read some of them here.

Challenging student behaviour is one of the major triggers for teacher stress. Here's a source of great ideas about how you can deal more effectively with poor classroom behaviour

How Well Do You Know Your Students

Recently, one of the visitors to this site, Lee, a retired teacher from the UK, wrote an interesting article here at Classroom Management Success about how getting to know his students had led to improved behaviour in the classroom, because he was able to build up positive relationships with them.

It really can be worth taking the time to get to know your students but you don't want to come across as trying to be too familiar.

So how do you do it?

Well, there's a great ebook that you can get absolutely free that will show you how you can engage with students to find out what makes them tick. Here's the link, it's called <a href="

Simple Solutions

I watched the UK Annual Teaching Awards on TV recently. It's a kind of Oscars ceremony to celebrate the best UK teachers who are nominated by their colleagues or students.

The winnerof the Best Headteacher Award summed up the reason for his school's success like this:
'The learning has to be right, which means the teaching has to be right, which means student behavior has to be right to allow successful teaching and learning to take place'. Simple.

The point is that successful schools meet the needs of their students, both the learning needs and the behavior needs
